CWW News (CWW) As a 5G pioneer, NB-IoT already has five million-level application scenarios, one of which is intelligent fire protection. In intelligent fire protection, intelligent smoke detection has become the most widely used fire protection equipment. As NB-IoT has recently become a 5G candidate technology, the industry's recognition of NB-IoT has increased significantly.

Coupled with the remarkable practical effect in the past year, NB-IoT smart smoke has entered the fast track of development. So, how can the industry seize the opportunity and take less detours to further expand the development scale of NB-IoT smart smoke sensing ? Recently, Guangdong Telecom held a seminar on smart fire smoke detection in Shenzhen. Experts from operators, solution providers, and smoke manufacturers talk about the future of smart smoke.

China Telecom: Opening up the entire ecosystem from "end, management, cloud, and use"

China Telecom is an important player in the field of Internet of Things, building a large number of NB-IoT base stations, covering the whole country. China Telecom has also been committed to the application of NB-IoT technology in the smart fire protection industry. At this seminar, Yang Jian, industry director of China Telecom Internet of Things Center, shared his understanding of 5G + smart fire protection.

"As one of the important application scenarios of 5G, massively connected IoT will promote the rapid development of smart firefighting in the 5G era, especially the popularity of smart smoke." Yang Jian said that because firefighting is related to the safety of people's lives and property, in 5G, With the rapid development of big data and Internet of Things technology, smart fire protection has achieved rapid development.

According to statistics from the China Fire Protection Association, since 2011, all parties have paid more and more attention to fire prevention and other work, and promoted the fire protection industry to maintain a 15% growth rate. The industry scale has exceeded the 400 billion yuan mark. During this period, the firefighting experienced the development of Internet firefighting, intelligent firefighting, and intelligent firefighting. The development of the fire protection industry has been closely following the development of communication technology.

Facing the opportunity of smart fire protection, China Telecom is naturally reluctant to wait for business to come. Yang Jian said that China Telecom will help customers realize value from four aspects: "end, management, cloud, and use."

"End": China Telecom customized the development board, provided professional testing, and provided comprehensive solutions for industry customers. It is reported that the development board provided by China Telecom can shorten the development cycle by 50% and reduce the cost by 30%. The development board has passed three professional tests including the base station and terminal matching test, the receiving sensitivity and demodulation performance test, and the voltage test when the terminal sends data, which can effectively solve the access time when the terminal accesses the NB-loT network. "Fast and slow" uncontrollable problem.

"Management": China Telecom is currently fully deploying the new cellular IoT network NB-IoT. By re-cultivating 800MHz spectrum resources, 310,000 NB-IoT network base stations have been built, covering 98% of the population. In addition, China Telecom has conducted comprehensive tests in the installation of NB fire equipment, and optimized the network through inter-frequency networking and room division.

"Cloud": China Telecom's Internet of Things open platform connection management platform. At present, it has achieved more than 8,000 service enterprise customers, more than 80 million bearer users, and an average of 140 million API interface calls per day. With regard to the construction of cloud resource pools, China Telecom currently has two cloud bases in Hohhot and Guiyang, achieving resource pool coverage in 31 provinces, and is a leader among operators.

          "Usage": China Telecom has solved the industry's pain points of "difficult construction, high power consumption, and difficult supervision". As of now, China Telecom's smart fire protection business has made breakthroughs in 85 cities and 24 provinces across the country, with a total connection of nearly 3 million, of which smart smoke detection accounts for 78% of the industry. For example, China Telecom provided 100,000 smart fire-fighting equipment and 20 cloud hosts for the West Lake District of Hangzhou; assisted the fire-fighting transformation of old places in Wuzhen;

It can be seen that China Telecom is very optimistic about the market opportunities of NB-IoT fire protection, and has taken positive actions from four aspects, and has achieved many achievements.

Huawei: helping smart smoke detection land

Due to the need for line connection, ordinary smoke detectors have the disadvantages of difficulty in construction and high overall cost; although independent smoke detectors do not have wiring problems, they do not support network connection and cannot realize real-time networked alarms; ordinary wireless smoke detectors and LoRa smart wireless smoke detectors There are disadvantages of difficult construction and overall cost. Among them, LoRa smart wireless smoke detector works in unlicensed frequency bands, and users also need to build base stations by themselves.

Xu Qiongtao, CTO of Huawei's cellular IoT product line, said that in comparison, NB-IoT smart wireless smoke detection does not require wiring, does not require users to build base stations separately, supports real-time networking alarms, and has lower construction costs. Therefore, NB-IoT smart wireless smoke detection has attracted much attention in the field of smart smoke detection.

As the author and main participant of the NB-IoT standard, Huawei has been using its technology research and development advantages to help NB-IoT smart fire protection solutions move towards large-scale commercial use. Xu Qiongtao shared Huawei's success stories in the field of smart smoke detection. For example, more than one million smart smoke detectors have been installed in Hangzhou; no fire accident has occurred after the fire smoke detectors were installed in the Luohe tribal community.

Of course, with the rapid development of NB-IoT smart smoke detection , Huawei is also actively communicating with customers to collect the challenges of further large-scale and high-quality applications of smart smoke detection. There are three major problems in Xu Qiongtao's analysis, which need to be further improved.

First, process issues. At present, the industry has problems with standardization of processes, problems with smoke detection not checking signals, and problems with smoke address entry. Second, the issue of coverage. In places with poor signals such as the basement, the problem of smoke detection will occur. Third, the terminal problem. At present, there is a phenomenon that the sensitivity of smoke detection equipment is lower than that of test instruments.

Face the problem squarely to solve the problem. In this regard, Xu Qiongtao put forward three suggestions: eliminate loopholes and ensure installation specifications; ensure business is normal, while taking into account delay and power consumption; standardize business processes and strengthen terminal access testing.

Conclusion: Smart smoke will become a fire guard

According to the Fire and Rescue Bureau statistics of the Ministry of Emergency Management, in 2018, a total of 237,000 fires were reported nationwide, killing 1407 people, injuring 798 people, and direct property loss of 3.675 billion yuan.

Faced with the relentless fire, "prevention" is more important than "elimination". How to prevent fires, the Internet of Things under 5G will give fire-fighting intelligent dream capabilities, allowing the industry to detect fires more accurately and in advance, prompt alarms, and assist in fire fighting. It can be said that NB-IoT smart smoke detection will become the first line of defense for fire prevention in the future, which will greatly reduce the occurrence of fires.

Through the introduction of participating operators, equipment manufacturers, and smoke sensor enterprise experts, we can see that NB-IoT smart smoke sensing has a leading edge in technology, cost, and function, and is no longer a concept, but has a mature Solutions and typical application cases.

Coupled with the Chinese government's policy support and the NB-IoT module has dropped to less than 20 yuan, NB-IoT smoke sensation has ushered in rapid development in the next few years, and has been upgraded to an application scenario with over 100 million connections, becoming 5G The "Fire Guard" of Smart Fire.
